10Ks and kitchen misadventures

Yesterday was the second time I took a crack at at the Lakeshore Miracle Run 10K. As I mentioned after running it last year, it’s a hard 10K. I had forgotten just how long a climb up that dune it really is, and with not training at all for this run, I’m just glad to say that I finished it. Celebration with beer and wings was definitely in order.

I had plans later that day to try out two new recipes that I was going to post; one for Hibachi-style fried rice, and another for egg rolls, which I got from a friend. The egg rolls were off to a strong start, right until I shaved the end of my thumb off with my very sharp chef’s knife. There was some bleeding, which refused to stop after an hour, at which point I broke down and went to Urgent Care to get it bandaged properly.

Two hours later, I have an immobile thumb. Obviously I can still type with it, and it’s only my left thumb, which isn’t as bad, but I realized as I started typing this post that I actually hit the spacebar with my left hand, not my right. I’m also a heavy user of shortcut keys, many of which I also use my left hand for. This also rules out video games for at least a week. Major bummer.

So this should be fun. I’ll probably have this guy wrapped up tight for a week or so, and will have it bandaged for another 2-3 afterwards. Not sure when the culinary adventures will resume after that. Sadness.
