Valentines Day Adventures

I suppose since I am dating someone I can’t really call Valentines Day Singles Awareness Day this year. Bummer. I rather enjoyed having a really good reason to be kind of surly. It’s the only other day of the year I can bust out my Dr. House routine. Oh well.

Yesterday started out on a really strong note:

Barista not included.

The shot may have been decaf, but I was trying to burn through what we’ve got in the office so that more pods get ordered. Thus…the decaf shot in the dark. To think that even as late as a year ago I was still basically a latte-only kind of guy…

Anyways. The morning was off to a great start, right up until I got a call about a server being down. Then Monday arrived in full force. It was not good. But there were gummy bears, which helped…

Surprisingly enough, the ones that aren’t soaked in vodka for a week are also good.

Then last night I threw together a quick pasta sauce for dinner. It turned out really well, but I should have used two containers of tomatoes instead of just one; it cooked down a lot more than I expected it would. But it also wasn’t really thin, which is what I was shooting for.

It was an improvised success.

The sauce, for those of you who want to try at home, began with some frozen roma tomatoes that my parents and I had peeled and cooked down a bit around labor day. I was not planning on cooking anything last night, so we started with a block of frozen tomatoes. I added a dash of olive oil to that, and then once things had melted and simmered, I tossed in some salt, some garlic (regrettably, I was out of fresh garlic) some italian seasoning, and some crushed red pepper flakes. I say “some” because there was absolutely no measuring going on. It turned out pretty well. With a sauce like this I’d recommend penne, but if you forgot to get penne at the store, rotini works too.
