Before I talk about tonight, I should probably back it up a few days. It’s been an odd week. We’ll begin with Tuesday.
Tuesday was a hard day to get through. After not really sticking to any kind of workout regimen the entire week prior due to laziness and a sunburn (mostly laziness), 5:30 came entirely too abruptly that morning. We were out of coffee at the office, and after 4 days without the caffeine infusion that my usual four cups brings, I was starting to feel the withdrawal. I had a fear that for a 4-day week, it was going to be hellishly long.
Fortunately, that was not the case. Once I got back up to speed Wednesday, things moved with an unusual amount of speed. Today came rather quickly, and by the time 5 rolled around this afternoon it definitely only felt like a 4 day week.
This being the first weekend of the Dry June challenge, and tonight being the night before a 5K, I was kind of planning on laying low tonight. I had worked out all week, especially last night, and I wanted to be fresh and ready for tomorrow even though I feel perfectly capable of handling a 5K at this point. My appetite for Captain Sundae won out over my desire to stay in tonight, though, and I wound up going with a couple of friends out in that direction. One of them brought a soccer ball, so following that we went to Tunnel Park. It was 9:30 by the time we got there and the sun had already gone down, but that wasn’t going to stop anything.
My friend and I kicked the soccer ball around on the beach for a while and marveled at how hard it is to run in the sand. Between running up the dune and then running around on the beach below, my legs were starting to get tired quickly. I was getting a little concerned that I’d be sore tomorrow, so we called it good and got ready to head back to the cars, which we had parked across the street. Beyond the fence that the parks department had closed a half hour ago.
While I am six feet tall, I am not a climber. I was also in sandals, and had no hope of scaling the fence and landing on the pavement below without either tearing something open or wrecking something, and either option didn’t seem like a bunch of fun. After walking along the fence and through a field of pinecones and pine needles, I finally found a gap in the fence I could squeeze through. Weight loss saves the day again!
Now, though, I need to load my running mix for tomorrow on my Evo, get my Runfos shirt in the washer, and get to bed. Until tomorrow!
