Sorry. I’ve been busy.

Part of the reason that I haven’t posted anything in over a week again is because I was either a) too busy or tired to get around to it, b) couldn’t exactly write about it yet, or c) didn’t really have anything worth writing about. “Hooray I ran!” starts to get old after a while.

What have I been up to lately though? Last week there was an abortive attempt to shift my morning workouts to the evenings after work. I realized by Thursday that this was not going to work. Maybe it’s just the deeply ingrained rhythm that I’ve got now, and maybe it’s that I like to not have to make the choice between a $1 PBR at Butch’s after work with a friend or working out after work, but trying to sleep until 6:30 or 7 was something I failed miserably at. I’d wake up not any more rested than when I’d get up at 5:30, I’d be just as tired during the day, and I barely worked out. I did do about 3.5 miles last Tuesday, and another 2 miles last Thursday and on Saturday and Sunday, but I only got my butt out to the fitness center one day last week (Friday, naturally). I wasn’t real happy with the results of that experiment, so I’m back to being up at 5:30 and working out. I am going to go for a run tonight, but I still did some lifting this morning.

Speaking of running, I’m pretty stoked for Thursday night: my first official 5K. This was something that I figured was nearly impossible to accomplish a few weeks ago, and I know right now I could do it. It’s made me revise my goal for the River Bank Run from doing a 5K to a 10K and it’s driven me to see just how fast and just how far I can go. I can definitely feel myself getting stronger as a runner, and I really like it.

Following Thursday’s 5K at 6, I’ve got a soccer game at 8. Because I figured the 5K wasn’t going to be such a big deal. I’m really going to start wishing that I had Friday off, and not because I wanted to knock back some Guinness Thursday night (I can’t stand the stuff).

Finally, I leave you with a video my friend found on Sunday while we were working on a website. We then tried it on Sam, and it did not go well. Most cats, it seems, are calm and sedate and just get kind of confused when they find themselves without any sense of balance or coordination. Sam, on the other hand, just went ballistic for about 10 seconds before winding up on his back in a corner.

Poor Sam.
