The weather for this last week has been spectacular. Highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s, cloudless skies. Naturally, I spent the entire time indoors, working, but I was delighted to check the weather tonight and find this:
Unfortunately, I’m taking a few days off (aka Fall Break) starting on Thursday, so the timing isn’t all that great. Oh well. Maybe next weekend will be as nice as this one, and I can scratch a few things off my list of goals to try and hit for October, such as:
Get outside more often
I remember way back in the spring reveling in the warm weather and being able to go for a run after work and not wear 5 layers in the process. The fall colors around here are GORGEOUS, and yet somehow I’ve managed to avoid getting outdoors. So whether it’s a run (or walk) through some trails, or a bike ride around the more woodsy parts of the area, I want to spend some more time outdoors this month before it gets too cold to really enjoy it.
Run!
I already sort of mentioned it above, but I want to start running more now that my ankle is better. Nothing too crazy, just a couple miles here and a couple miles there. I think there are a few 5K runs around the holidays and I wouldn’t mind seeing how well I can do in those. I also want to get my stamina and my speed up so I’ll be ready when I switch back to indoor soccer in a few weeks. In a desire to attach something specific to this goal, I’d like to have run 18 miles by the end of the month, which is really only something like 6 miles a week. Easy enough, I think…
Eat a little smarter
I love food. I love to cook food, and I also have a habit of getting a little lazy, and it’s starting to show. Paradoxically enough, I probably eat worse now than I did when I was in college. When it’s the end of the day and you’re tired and there’s no homework waiting for you after dinner, there’s not much of an excuse to stall by making something spectacular. My plan is to spend Sundays cooking so I’ve got enough decent stuff for the week that I don’t default to getting a chicken finger basket from 8th Street Grille for lunch. The downside is that it requires a bit of planning and a ton of time spent in a hot kitchen, but I figure it’s probably worth it.
Pass my next Microsoft Exam
By the end of this month, my plan is to pass my next Microsoft exam. I had outlined previously what my exam path is, and the next exam up is 70-646: Windows Server Administration. This exam isn’t part of the higher Enterprise Admin certification, but it is helpful to have. Once I’ve passed that, it’s on to my networking exam, which I’m really not looking forward to.
Now go outside and enjoy the weather!
